Massachusetts-based A123Systems has signed a deal to develop battery systems for electric vehicles (EVs) made by the Navistar Modec Electric Vehicle Alliance, a joint venture between truck maker Navistar and EV manufacturer Modec. A123Systems will develop and manufacture lithium-ion batteries for Navistar Modec’s vehicle at its manufacturing facility in Livonia, Michigan, which is expected to open later this month. The battery will enable the EV to travel around 100 miles per charge. Navistar Modec’s EV is slated to launch mid-2010.
