Vyborgskaya Cellulose is planning to build what it says will be the world’s largest wood pellet plant in Russia. The facility will be located near the country’s border with Finland, with production slated to begin in Q3 of this year. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 900,000 tons, with raw materials expected to be sourced mainly from Belarus and Russia. Vyborgskaya is purchasing equipment for the plant from Austrian engineering group Andritz.

Last week, German renewable energy firm RWE Innogy announced plans to build a EUR120m (USD169m) pellet plant in the US. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 750,000 tons and is scheduled for completion in 2011.
