The renewable energy subsidiary of Italian utility Enel is partnering with Enerthi Mexico to develop up to 1GW of wind energy capacity in Mexico. Enel Green Power and the Mexican unit of Spain’s Enerthi will develop projects of between 60MW and 200MW in capacity in the states of Baja California, Oaxaca and Zacatecas. Enerthi will build the wind farms.
Last week, Enel paid an undisclosed sum to acquire a minority stake in Minnesota-based wind farm developer, Geronimo Wind Energy. The pair plan to develop up to 4GW of wind energy capacity in the US.
In related news, Mexican cement producer CEMEX has completed the construction of a 250MW wind farm in Oaxaca. The Eurus project was developed in partnership with Acciona Energia and will supply 25% of CEMEX’s energy requirements in Mexico.
