SunPower is receiving a USD1.8m grant from the California Solar Initiative Research, Development, Deployment and Demonstration (CSI RD&D). The firm plans to use the funding to research photovoltaic (PV) energy storage for large-scale commercial applications. SunPower is teaming up with energy storage firms Ice EnergyXtreme Power and ZBB Energy on the project, and will set up a pilot programme to demonstrate the integration of energy storage systems with PV systems.

Last month, SunPower secured a deal to build a solar farm at an Air Force base in Arizona. The project will have a 15MW capacity.
