Venture plans Canada’s first thin-film solar plant

Ontario-based Solar Source Corp, a subsidiary of Solar Bancorp, is forming a joint venture with Bangalore-based Hind High Vacuum to produce thin-film solar panels in Canada. The pair plan to build a manufacturing plant on Prince Edward Island to make amorphous silicon-based thin-film modules. The facility is expected to be the first to produce thin-film solar panels in Canada. The 120MW plant will be built in four phases, with the first phase slated to have an annual production capacity of 30MW.

Deal Details

The firms are also planning a crystalline silicon-based solar panel plant in Ontario with a 120MW capacity. The projects are reportedly expected to cost a combined USD240m.
