Alstom has secured a EUR200m (USD255m) contract from ScottishPower Renewables to support expanding a wind farm in Scotland. The French firm will install 143 of its wind turbines to increase the capacity of the Whitelee wind farm by 217MW to 539MW. The project, located south of Glasgow, currently has a 322MW capacity. The new capacity is expected to begin operating in 2012. The contract also includes transportation, operations and maintenance.
The Whitelee expansion is part of a deal between Alstom and ScottishPower parent company Iberdrola to install wind turbines at nine wind farms in Spain and the UK. The expansion has a combined capacity of 500MW. In July, Alstom received a USD126m contract from Desenvix to build a wind farm complex in Brazil. The wind farms will have a combined capacity of 90MW.
