Panasonic is considering setting up a number of manufacturing plants for lithium-ion batteries in China. The Japanese electronics firm currently produces all its batteries for electric vehicles (EV) domestically however, according to the Nikkei, plans by carmakers such as Volkswagen and Toyota Motor to begin manufacturing EVs in China has led the firm to consider establishing a base for automotive batteries in the country.
