Dutch firm Royal DSM is forming a joint venture with US ethanol producer POET to produce cellulose-based ethanol. The venture, called POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels will be equally owned by each partner and will be based in South Dakota. The pair will initially invest USD250m in the venture, which will combine the technologies of both companies to produce ethanol from corn crop residue using enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation.
