Australia’s Algae.Tec is forming a joint venture with oil equipment and services firm Shandong Kerui Group to produce algae-based biofuel in China. The pair will hold an equal share in the venture which will leverage Algae.Tec’s technology. The system involves pumping light, nutrients and carbon dioxide into closed shipping containers to grow selected strains of algae. The harvested algae is separated into the oil and biomass for use in producing biodiesel, jet fuel and ethanol.
