SG Biofuels has raised USD17m in a Series B funding round led by Thomas, McNerney & Partners. Finistere Ventures and existing investors Flint Hills Resources and Life Technologies also participated in the round. The Californian firm claims to have created the world’s largest and most diverse library of jatropha genetic material, and is using biotechnology to reduce the costs of growing the crop, while simultaneously increasing its yield. The proceeds from the investment will be used to expand R&D, advance commercialisation and scale-up global operations.
