French semiconductor firm Soitec is investing more than USD150m to set up a manufacturing plant for concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) systems in California. The investment includes the acquisition of a factory in San Diego from electronics firm Sony, with work installing Soitec’s equipment at the site set to begin early next year. The plant will have the capacity to produce 200MW per year of CPV modules, with the first 100MW expected to come online by the end of 2012. Soitec plans to double the facility’s capacity in the future.
