Massachusetts-based Mascoma is teaming up with Valero Energy to develop its first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant. The facility is expected to cost USD232m and is to be majority financed by the Texas petrochemical firm, which invested USD5m in Mascoma at the turn of the year. The remainder of the plant’s development costs are covered by backing from the US Department of Energy and State of Michigan. Construction of the facility, located in Kinross, Michigan, is slated to begin in the next six months and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2013.
