The US Department of Energy (DoE) is awarding USD41m in funding to 16 projects developing post-combustion technology for capturing carbon dioxide. The funding will be provided over a period of three years, and focus on developing technologies which can achieve at least 90% carbon dioxide removal without increasing the cost of electricity generated at a power plant by more than 35%. The US government aims to bring five to 10 commercial demonstration projects online by 2016.
