The US Department of Energy (DoE) is handing out more than USD175m in funds to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced vehicle technologies. The funding, to be provided over the next three to five years, will go towards 40 projects targeting areas such as improved fuels and lubricants, lighter weight materials, longer-lasting and cheaper electric vehicle batteries and increased efficiency engine technologies. The announcement follows the unveiling of new US fuel efficiency standards last month, which will see fuel efficiency reach 54.5mpg by model-year 2025.
