Emefcy has raised an undisclosed amount, rumoured to be around USD4m, in a Series B funding round. Investors include Energy Technology Ventures, Pond Venture Partners, Plan B Ventures and Israel Cleantech Ventures. The Israeli firm was founded in 2007 and is developing microbial fuel cell technology for use in wastewater treatment facilities. The technology uses naturally occurring bacteria in an electrogenic bioreactor to treat wastewater, while producing power. Emefcy claims this enables an energy-positive wastewater treatment plant.
