GE Energy is snapping up a minority stake in Californian solar thermal firm eSolar for an undisclosed sum. The firm is also licensing eSolar’s technology to deploy integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) systems, as well as stand-alone solar thermal power plants. eSolar’s technology uses field of flat solar-tracking mirrors to focus solar radiation on a central tower. When heated, liquid within the tower is converted into steam, which is used to drive a turbine.
