GE buys wind turbine tower technology

General Electric (GE) is paying an undisclosed sum to acquire technology from Wind Tower Systems (WTS). The space frame tower technology is expected to support taller wind turbine towers, which GE says is an important factor as rotor blade lengths increase. WTS has also been working on ways to transport the taller wind turbine towers. GE hopes to test and validate the technology later this year, with commercialisation targeted for 2012.
