GE buys SNC-Lavalin’s energy control systems unit

General Electric (GE) is paying an undisclosed sum to acquire the energy control systems (ECS) business of Canadian engineering and construction firm, SNC-Lavalin. SNC’s unit will retain its current staff and remain based in Montreal. ECS software provides continuous monitoring and analysis of electricity transmissions networks, which GE claims improves efficiency and reliability.
