BioTherm gets USD150m for renewable projects in South Africa

Boston investment firm Denham Capital is investing ZAR1.5bn (USD150m) in BioTherm, a renewable energy project developer that aims to build around 300MW of biomass, biogas and waste heat projects in South Africa. BioTherm hopes to address South Africa’s energy shortage, which has seen a capacity shortfall of up to 4GW at peak hours, according to a government report published in May. BioTherm CEO Charles Liebenberg says he expects power shortages to continue for more than a decade.
