GreenFuel Technologies is building a USD92m algae farm at Holcim’s cement works near Jerez, Spain, with project developer Aurantia. The firm was rumoured to be seeking funding for the project in March. GreenFuel will cultivate the algae in 100 hectares of greenhouses and hopes to produce 25,000 tons per year of algae biomass, which will be converted into biodiesel or livestock feed. The algae will be fed on carbon dioxide emitted by the cement plant.
