The US Department of Energy (DoE) is awarding Idaho firm US Solar and utility Arizona Public Service (APS) a USD4.35m grant to devise new ways of storing energy generated by solar thermal plants. US Solar will direct the research from its facility in Tucson, with scientists at the University of Arizona working on modelling the designs. APS will test the technology at its Saguaro solar thermal plant in Red Rock.
