US DoE awards up to USD17.6m to six solar startups

The US Department of Energy (DoE) is awarding up to USD17.6m to six startups developing technologies that could increase the efficiency or reduce the cost of photovoltaic cells. The companies will receive up to USD3m each. The private sector is expected to contribute at least 20% of the projects’ costs, meaning the total research spend could be as much as USD35.4m.
